After 7 years of specifically living by this credo, I am still doing things with the people I have met along the way. And it’s quite easy to get started. When someone you know tells you what they want to do, what their dream is… just make it come true!

J’ai créé un nouveau bracelet qui utilise la multitude de petites billes disparates que je collectionne depuis plusieurs années. Celui-ci contient des pendentifs mexicains en métals coulées dans le sable, des bicones en verre hématite (vintage) de Czekoslovaquie, des oiseaux noirs en terre cuite du Pérou, des paillettes en plastique, des rondelles en métal récupérées d’un collier Chinois sur des fils de coton DMC modernes et vintage. Le système de fermeture utilise un ‘washer’ de scrapbooking avec le mot ‘Delight’ estampillé sur les deux cotés. Cette technique qui utilise seulement la broderie pour tenir le tout sécuritairement est assez complexe à exécuter mais le résultat est très amusant. J’en ai deux autres en construction dont un qui utilise des petites billes de verre ‘evil eye’. Quelques autres créations de Noël se trouvent ici.

The improvisation cut work piece I showed here a few months ago has been short listed for an encyclopedia. Regardless of whether it is selected or not, I really can’t wait to get my hand on this book! Last week I went on a bender of British Victorian and Regency documentaries. I am also enjoying Downton Abbey. As a former nanny and housekeeper I enjoy shows and movies that focus on ‘the help’ but I am mostly awed by the costume design.
My little bout of lady’s work produced this shisha embroidery sampler in the form of a coin.
N’ayant pas de petit miroirs pour pratiquer les appliqués Shisha indiens, j’utilise des pièces de monnaies. Cette improvisation, créée avec des bouts de fils restants, contient 52 cents Canadiens avec un pièce souvenir (oiseau) datant de 1967. I do not have mirrors to practice indian shisha embroidery so I use coins! This improvisation contains 52 Canadian cents (including a souvenir bird penny from 1967). It was sourced entirely from my waste thread pile.

I have recently set up my Dropbox to run Xampplite for development on all my computers. Incidentally, this will also allow me to edit my localhost from my iPad. While I can’t run Apache on my iPad I can use it to maintain libraries of code for projects I am currently developing and if those libraries are housed in the Public folder than I can fetch them and install them to my Linode using Prompt.
I am currently working on a host of contest solutions for Facebook and Twitter in Québécois!! It is rather hard and expensive to localize English Facebook apps and they are horrendously expensive and kinda spammy. I decided to develop a white label with no spamming whatsoever for my clients. I will offer 4 types of contests including viral Twitter contests!!!
So after 3 months of doing mostly offline things and crafting I am back on programming projects at least 5 hours a day. But I enjoy being able to develop anywhere with the device I want to use. Whether it’s my netbook, my desk computer or my iPad. However, this morning I decided to see if I could build a website from scratch using only my iPad. I could have used Prompt and Nano’d my way to an application on my Linode but most people don’t have an unmanaged server or SSH ninja skills.
But you know how thrifty I am, it’s how I can afford my slacker lifestyle of doing whatever the f*&?ck I want while investing in my friends’ potential, learning new stuff, cooking my own food, cleaning this insane huge space, programming, making my own gifts and spending as much time with my spouse and child as humanly possible!!! So I went the ultra simple route using only free software on the iPad.
I sketched my Dropbox appreciation heart image using Live Sketch HD which can be cropped and resized using Adobe Photoshop Express. Then I used Nebulus Notes Lite (which easily syncs with DropBox) to edit my html in the Public folder. Not happy with the long winded Dropbox URL, I simply shortened it with bit.ly. I highly recommend this if you plan on giving contacts your URL. Plus it will allow you to track sharing and visits to your website.

This is not a complex and dynamic website, simply an html site than runs a bit of Javascript to spice things up. You are welcomed to look at the source code or download the whole thing.
How will I use this? Ever since I started programming, I have created dummy apps to show my clients or colleagues what it would look like finished. Doing this allowed me to explain how the app would work (in 1995, there was lots of ‘splaining to do) while getting usability feedback. Using my public Dropbox folder and my iPad, I can show clients digital mock-ups or and continue working on my apps. You see, I leave at 6am to take my daughter to school from Hochelaga to Pierrefonds (and back) and this takes 5 hours per day. My old Netbook can only muster 3 hours of juice hence why I enjoy more options.
So there you have it, free web hosting for your html website FOREVER!

Cet été je vais offrir une cours de vente sur Etsy pour les artistes en français et anglais. J’utilise Etsy pour vendre plusieurs choses depuis 4 ans soit, mes petits coeurs brodés en feutrine, mes PDF de bobines pour fil et des objects ‘vintage’ et antiques. Jamais je n’aurai cru que mes PDFs vendraient si bien. J’en ai donc ajouté un nouveau cette semaine suite à une requête d’utilisatrice. Vendre sur eBay (1997-2006) et sur Etsy (2007+) me permet d’exercer une foules de neuronnes créative du processus d’affaires, gestion, idéation et design. Aujourd’hui mes oeuvres inspirent des sourires dans le monde entier et les commentaires que je recoit sont quelquesfois incroyables, comme celui-ci:

Pour me préparer à donner mon cours, j’ai aménagé mon atelier afin d’avoir tous le nécessaire sous la main (ou plutôt, le non nécessaire bien rangé.) Ceci inclus tous les outils nécessaire pour créer un petit studio de photo, fabriquer des cartes promos, etc.
Je suis heureuse d’avoir un ancien meuble d’architecte pour garder le tout bien organisé (il pèse une tonne et demie!!!). Je n’ai jamais été si bien organisée pour travailler et j’en profite quotidiennement! Nous avons utilisé de 4×4 pour remonter le cabinet au une hauteur idéale pour travailler debout. La surface métallique du cabinet est énorme et j’utilise des aimants pour retenir mes projets et mes notes.
La semaine dernière j’ai utilisé le dos de la veste africaine pour pratiquer le ‘cut work’, un type de dentelle qui requiert un tissu tissé. L’effect ton sur ton créé avec du fil noir est remarquable. Je l’ai donc monté et affiché au mur. (voir toutes les photos)
